What a great time to be part of Creative Heritage! This week was one of the most impactful for us as a community group and nonprofit organisation. We received a ton of good news and formed new partnerships that would ultimately help us make Sutton a better place for all of us, but most importantly for our children and young people. The news we are bursting to share with you today are that Creative Heritage is now officially shortlisted for this year's Sutton Community Awards in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award category. It is difficult to put into words the emotions we felt when that email came through but it is safe to say that we were humbled, proud and motivated, all at the same time.
The whole team is extremely grateful to Cultural Services who were the first to nominate us in this category and to every other person who has ever been part of our events and work, who also chose to give us the honour of a nomination. This type of recognition is the most powerful spark that ignites our motivation to be creative, to work tirelessly and to serve our diverse and incredible community.
It goes without saying that we felt truly special and seen when we were told that the jury panel, formed of Sutton Council, Community Action Sutton, Volunteer Centre Sutton, Sutton Housing Partnership and Everyone Active, have been strongly impressed with the great examples of community spirit and cohesion Creative Heritage has demonstrated.
Why Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
We are extremely proud that this is the category we are shortlisted for as it perfectly matches our vision and mission. We believe celebrating and embracing diversity are the keys to building a cohesive, successful, peaceful and well-educated society. And it is very important to note that when we say diversity we never mean promoting only foreign cultures or only ethnic communities/minorities. Everyone deserves the right to feel accepted, celebrated and seen at the place they call home, whether by choice, by birth or by centuries-long ancestry. We are here to prove that our differences don't have to separate us, because no matter where we came from or who we are, WE ARE ALL ONE! Although performing arts are at the core of what we do, Creative Heritage strives to provide events that serve some needs of the community, other than entertainment and talent development. We ran a Hair Care event earlier this year to promote self-acceptance, self-confidence and self-care. In the pipeline for next year we have more planned events that will focus on mental health, parenting techniques, neurodivergent children and holiday clubs to save working parents money on childcare during the school holidays.
The Award Ceremony
The award ceremony will take place on 28th November at our beloved Cryer Arts Theatre - the home of Around the World Festival. We don't know what to expect but we are surely keeping our fingers crossed for going home with an award that would mean so very much to us. And of course, keep an eye on our social media profiles, because we will be sharing the news (whatever they may be) with you first!
What Can You Do to Support Us?
From what we know, the awards winners will be decided by the jury panel. You have already so much for us by nominating us for an award. And for that we are enormously grateful! If you want to show us your support, please come to our Christmas from Home & Around the World Festive Experience on 7th December at Christ Church Sutton, SM2 5TN. If you have children between the ages of 4 and 17, please remind them to take part of our FREE Art and Writing Contests. The deadlines are 10th and 15th November and the pieces will be exhibited at our Christmas Experience and in a special book Creative Heritage is publishing for Christmas.
